IAF Western Command Gets New Head: Air Marshal Mishra Takes Over. Air Marshal Jitendra Mishra on Wednesday took command of the most important Western Air Command (WAC) of the Indian Air Force (IAF). This command is not only the largest command of the Indian Air Force, but it is also considered extremely important due to its strategic role. Air Marshal Mishra, who is an experienced fighter jet pilot and test pilot, has more than 3,000 hours of flying experience.

Air Marshal Mishra was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in December 1986. His early education was done at the National Defense Academy (NDA), Pune and Air Force Test Pilot School, Bangalore. There he studied with a lot of hard work and dedication, due to which he is a very good pilot today. He has also received higher education from Air Command and Staff College, USA and Royal College of Defense Studies, UK. He has faced a lot of difficulties in his life. The Western Air Command is headquartered in New Delhi. This command plays a vital role in ensuring India’s security on two major fronts, Pakistan and China. Its area of responsibility includes Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh (on the Chinese front), Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, parts of Rajasthan (on the western front), and IAF bases in Chandigarh, New Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh.

The Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force has participated in many important operations since independence. These include:
Kashmir Operations (1947-48): Made a significant contribution in the first military conflict with Pakistan.
Sino-Indian Conflict (1962): Assisted in supply and strategic operations during the war with China.
