Landlords ask about religion: Shared an emotional post on Instagram
Yamini wrote in her Instagram story that the landlords and agents ask her, “Are you a Hindu or a Muslim? Are you a Gujarati or a Marwari?”* Along with this, she also told that due to her being an actress, many people flatly refused to give her a house.
Mumbai: City of dreams or city of conditions?
Yamini raised the question in her post, “Am I less entitled to get a house because I am an actor? It is very shocking that such questions are being asked even in 2025. Can we really call it a city of dreams? If dreams come with conditions?” She also said that is it so bad to be an actress that she is not even able to find a house for rent.
However, Yamini did not share with the people whether she got the house or not, but her post has raised many questions in the minds of the people.
Apart from Yamini Malhotra, many other actresses have also faced such problems
This problem is not only of Yamini. Earlier, actress Charu Asopa had also revealed that due to being a single parent, she had to face difficulties in finding a house in Mumbai.
Struggles of the entertainment industry and social thinking
This incident shows that even today the perceptions towards actresses and artists in the society have not completely changed. Questions asked about religion, profession and personal status in big cities have a bad effect on the mentality of the society and raise many questions.
Yamini’s post has given rise to discussion not only in the entertainment industry but also among the common people. It will be interesting to see what further steps are taken on this issue and it is also worth thinking whether any efforts will be made to improve it.
