National Voters’ Day 2025: How India’s Election Commission Has Shaped Democracy Over 75 Years. Today, the 15th National Voters’ Day (NVD) is being celebrated across India. To celebrate this important day, the Election Commission of India has organized a grand event in New Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu will attend the event as the chief guest and will present the Best Electoral Behaviour Awards to state and district officials. The main objective of National Voters’ Day is to promote voter participation and make people aware about the importance of voting across the country.
Importance of National Voters’ Day 2025
National Voters’ Day marks 75 years of the establishment of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which was established in 1950. The day has been celebrated continuously since 2011 and aims to make citizens aware of voting. The day aims to underline the centrality of the voter and increase electoral awareness among citizens, so that they actively participate in the democratic process and are informed about their rights.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s government had decided in 2011 that this day would be celebrated as a special day, the main objective of which was to enroll new voters and provide them with their Voter ID Card (EPIC). On this day, new voters are felicitated and given their voter photo identity cards.
National Voters’ Day is celebrated across the country at the national, state, district, constituency and polling station levels. It is considered one of the most important and widespread celebrations in the country.
Theme of National Voters’ Day 2025
The theme of National Voters’ Day 2025 is: “Nothing beats voting, I will definitely vote”. This theme continues from last year and aims to send the message that voting is an important and powerful tool to shape the leadership of the country. Through this theme, active participation of citizens in elections is promoted.
India’s voter list is going to reach 100 crores soon
According to the official release of ECI, India currently has 99.1 crore registered voters. This figure is going to reach close to 100 crores soon. This includes 21.7 crore young voters especially in the age group of 18-29. Apart from this, the electoral gender ratio has also improved, which was 948 in 2024 and has increased to 954 in 2025. These important progress will also be prominently shown in this program, which has been done to create a young and gender-balanced voter list.
National Voter’s Day not only demonstrates the strength of Indian democracy, but it also makes citizens aware of their electoral rights. This day holds special importance for the purpose of increasing people’s participation in voting and the organization of this day by the Election Commission of India plays an important role in taking the democratic processes forward.
