Disintegration in AAP before Delhi elections: Kailash Gehlot’s resignation in discussion. Former Delhi minister Kailash Gehlot has left the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and has also resigned from his post. The party has blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for his move. Gehlot has joined the BJP amid raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department, which AAP leaders have described as a result of political pressure and conspiracy.
AAP leaders’ allegations against BJP
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said on this development,
Kailash Gehlot was raided several times by the ED and the Income Tax Department. He was part of the government for five years and the BJP was constantly conspiring against him. He was left with no option but to go with the BJP.
Sanjay Singh further said that this strategy of the BJP is not new. He claimed,
“The day you join the BJP, you will be free from all the allegations.”
AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar also supported this statement and said that BJP is using ED and CBI to bring leaders to its side.
Kailash Gehlot chose to join BJP because he took the easy way instead of struggling in jails.
Reason for Kailash Gehlot’s resignation
Kailash Gehlot wrote in his resignation letter to AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal that the basic objectives of the party have now changed. He said:
“The party is facing serious internal challenges. Political ambitions have overtaken our commitments towards the people.”
He gave the example of Yamuna river and said that the party had promised to turn it into a clean river, but the promise could not be fulfilled.
“Yamuna river has become more polluted than before.”
Gehlot also raised questions on the ongoing tussle between the Delhi government and the Center. He wrote,
“If the Delhi government spends most of its time fighting the Centre, there cannot be real progress for Delhi. This is seriously affecting our ability to deliver basic services to the people of Delhi.”
Political tension between AAP and BJP
This is not the first time that AAP has accused the BJP of poaching its leaders.
- Raj Kumar Anand joining the BJP was already predicted.
- AAP has been constantly targeting the BJP over the use of ED and CBI.
