Fog affects air traffic at IGI airport; AQI in Delhi above 350 After the recent rains in Delhi and NCR, the air quality has improved, due to which many restrictions have been removed under Phase IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Tuesday. However, Delhi’s air quality is still in the very poor category, and more improvement is expected in the coming days.

Air traffic affected due to fog

A layer of fog is being seen in the cities of NCR including the national capital Delhi, which is affecting the road and air routes. Many flights are expected to be affected due to dense fog at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The advisory issued by the airport states that flights which are not CAT III compliant are being affected. Passengers have been requested to get information about their flight from the airline.

What is CAT III

CAT III compliance means that aircraft or airports are equipped with instrument landing systems, which allow flights to land safely in low visibility conditions.

GRAP Phase IV restrictions lifted

Several restrictions under GRAP Phase IV have been lifted in Delhi and NCR due to improvement in air quality after rain. The average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 369 on Tuesday, and further improvement is expected in the coming days.

These restrictions were lifted

Restrictions on all construction activities were lifted.

  • The ban on entry of non-essential polluting trucks into Delhi was lifted.
  • All classes except class 10 and 12 were mandatorily allowed to run in hybrid mode.
  • The ban on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles will continue.

Today’s AQI

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air index in many areas of Delhi is still in the ‘very poor’ category at 7 am on Wednesday. AQI was recorded at 363 in Anand Vihar, 329 in Alipur, 372 in Ashok Vihar, 374 in Dwarka Sector-8 and 375 in Jahangirpuri. The minimum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog is expected in the coming days.

Rain increased the cold

Due to the rain on Tuesday, the cold increased in Delhi and NCR. The cold wind has forced people to shiver. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature may increase by three degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, which will provide some relief from the cold. The maximum temperature on Wednesday is expected to be 23 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 7 degrees Celsius.

Rain expected on Friday too

According to the Meteorological Department, after two days of relief, it may rain again on Friday. The maximum temperature may drop by 2 degrees Celsius. On Friday, the maximum temperature is expected to be 21 degrees Celsius and the minimum 12 degrees Celsius, which may increase the cold further.
