Maharashtra Assembly Election: Polling day, voting continues on all 288 seats Voting began at 7 am on 288 assembly seats in the state, which will continue till 6 pm. In these elections, the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is trying to retain power, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance is hoping for a strong comeback. Counting of votes will take place on November 23.
Maharashtra Assembly Election Status of Mahayuti alliance
The Mahayuti includes the BJP, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The alliance is hoping to attract women and retain power through schemes like “Majhi Ladki, Majhi Behan”.
However, there is also confusion within the ruling alliance over some issues. Slogans like “Batenge toh Katenge” given by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and “Ek Hai toh Surakshit Hai” by PM Modi led to a controversy. Ajit Pawar distanced himself from these statements, causing a stir in the alliance.
Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)’s View
The MVA, which comprises the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, has prioritised issues like caste-based census, social justice and protection of the Constitution in these elections. The MVA criticised the BJP’s slogans, calling it divisive, and advocated development and equality.
Ajit Pawar hopeful in Baramati
All eyes are on Baramati, which is Ajit Pawar’s stronghold. While voting, Ajit Pawar said that he is hopeful of winning in his constituency. Baramati has been the traditional influence of the NCP, and this time too he seems confident of retaining it.
Importance of voting
According to the Election Commission, heavy crowds were seen at polling stations since morning. Youth, women and the elderly participated in the voting in large numbers. Political analysts believe that this time the election can prove to be a new direction for the politics of the state.
Way forward
The election results will come on November 23, which will decide which way the balance of power will tilt in Maharashtra. Mahayuti is in the fray with its plans and development agenda, while the MVA is fighting on the issue of social justice and constitutional values
