National Girl Child Day 2025: Highlighting health challenges faced by adolescent girls
National Girl Child Day 2025: Empowering Teen girls through better health awareness National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24 January to raise awareness about the challenges and inequalities faced by girl children in India. Instituted in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the day focuses on promoting the rights of girls and ensuring that they get the support and opportunities they deserve. Girls should be given their full rights so that they can live their lives well and not be self-dependent.
Among the various problems faced by girls, health issues are a significant concern. Adolescent girls in particular face many health challenges during their developmental years. Below are some common health problems affecting teenage girls and ways to overcome them:
Obesity and overweight
Obesity is a big problem for girls. Obesity is increasing rapidly among teenage girls due to factors such as unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity and sometimes genetics. If not addressed in time, this condition can lead to serious health complications including type 2 diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. Therefore, if you want to avoid diseases, then you have to take care of your health.
Eating disorders
Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are worryingly common in teenage girls. Social pressure regarding body image, influence of social media and emotional stress contribute to these conditions, which can result in serious physical and mental health consequences. You should also consult a doctor on time.
Hormonal changes and menstrual irregularities
With puberty comes hormonal fluctuations, which can lead to irregular menstruation, severe PMS or painful menstruation. These changes can affect appetite, energy levels and mood, sometimes leading to emotional eating or unhealthy dietary habits. Teens should take care of their health and also pay attention to what they eat during this time.
Mental health challenges
Anxiety, depression and stress are significant mental health concerns for teenage girls. These issues can affect eating patterns, causing some to overeat or undereat as a way to cope.
Nutrient deficiencies
Due to irregular eating or dieting, some teenage girls do not consume essential nutrients. Lack of iron, calcium and vitamin D can lead to fatigue, weak immunity, bone health problems and other long-term health issues.
On National Girl Child Day 2025, let us pledge to address these serious health challenges faced by teenage girls. By creating awareness and providing the necessary support, we can ensure a healthier and brighter future for the next generation of girls.
