New facility for ration card holders: Now 4 types of ration will be available free. Along with wheat and rice, jowar and millet will also be distributed to ration card holders of Kanpur in the month of January. Antyodaya card holders will get millet and eligible household card holders will get rice and wheat along with jowar. There are a total of 794,539 ration card holder families in the district, out of which **63,148 are Antyodaya card holders and 731,391 are eligible household card holders.

- 35 kg ration will be given per card.
- 17 kg wheat, 13 kg rice, 5 kg millet

Uproar over underweighing in Kannauj district
The villagers of Kannauj district have expressed their displeasure over the underweighing in ration distribution. The villagers who reached the tehsil on Tuesday have submitted a memorandum to the SDM and the supply inspector and demanded action
Complaints
- Shopkeepers being insensitive during distribution.
- 2 kg ration is reduced from the sack of each villager.
The video of underweighing is going viral on the internet media. And the district officer says that all this should be stopped as soon as possible.
Administration’s response
Supply Inspector Ankit Agarwal said that:
- The underweighing should be investigated as soon as possible.
- Strict action should be taken against the guilty shopkeepers on the basis of video and evidence.
Demand of the villagers
The villagers have demanded a fair investigation and appropriate action against the responsible shopkeepers and have said that they should also be given the harshest punishment
While new facilities like jowar and bajra for ration card holders in Kanpur are a relief news, the issue of underweighing in Kannauj has increased the trouble of the villagers. The government and administration will have to ensure that the distribution process should be done properly. There should not be any problem in it.
