Cold wave in the capital: Temperature below 5 degrees
Weather alert for Delhiites: Severe cold wave has begun The period of severe cold continues in the capital Delhi. For the last two days, the minimum temperature has remained below 5 degrees Celsius. On Thursday also, the cold continued its effect throughout the day. However, the heat of the sun during the day was somewhat relieving, but the maximum temperature could reach only 22 degrees.
Temperature below normal
On Thursday, the maximum temperature of the capital Delhi was recorded at 22.2 degrees Celsius, which is normally one degree less. At the same time, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.5 degrees Celsius, which is normally four degrees less.
Temperature in major areas
The minimum temperature in different areas of Delhi was as follows:
- Lodhi Road: 4.4 degrees
- Aya Nagar: 3.8 degrees
- Gurugram: 4.8 degrees
- Narela: 4.7 degrees
- Pusa: 3.2 degrees
Cold wave alert
According to the Meteorological Department, cold wave conditions may persist in the capital Delhi for the next two days. Due to which there is every possibility of further drop in temperature. In view of this increasing outbreak of cold, citizens have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
This cold in Delhi has not only affected the common life, but its effect can also be seen on daily activities. In such a situation, there is a need to use warm clothes and adopt other measures to protect from cold.
How will be the weather in Delhi today?
Cold has started to wreak havoc in Delhi. According to the forecast, cold wave will be felt in some areas of the capital Delhi on Friday. Smog and fog may prevail in the morning, which may reduce visibility. The temperature continues to fall, and on Friday the maximum temperature is expected to be 23 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be **4 degrees Celsius
The effect of cold wave will continue on December 14 as well
On Saturday i.e. December 14, there is little possibility of Delhiites getting relief. The maximum temperature of the capital Delhi can remain only 23 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature can remain only 4 degrees Celsius. According to Skymet, the temperature of Delhi has been running below 5 degrees Celsius for the last two days.
Now the cold wave may continue for the next three days i.e. during the entire weekend.
Western disturbance active in the mountains
A Western Disturbance is active in the hilly areas of North India, which is likely to end by Friday. After this, no major seasonal activity is expected in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh.
Cold winds in the plains
After the end of the Western Disturbance, cold winds coming from the snow-covered mountains will move towards the plains. Due to which the minimum temperature of Delhi-NCR may fall further. The cold is likely to increase further in the next three days, due to which Delhiites need to be cautious.
How to protect yourself?
- Cold wind blows in the morning and night time, so we should use warm clothes
- While going out of the house, the body should be completely covered with warm cloth
- Consume hot beverages like ginger tea or soup.
- Heaters and wood should be used properly to avoid cold.

Cold wave has started in Delhi
The minimum temperature of the capital (Safdarjung) was 4.9 degrees on Wednesday. After which cold wave was declared on Wednesday. On Thursday, the temperature fell to 4.5. Despite this, cold wave has not been declared. The reason for this is that the normal temperature on December 11 is 9.6 while on December 12 it is 8.6. Normal temperature is decided on the basis of the average temperature of the last decade.
God also wore warm clothes in temples
The increasing cold of winter has forced not only common people but also God to change his clothes. In various temples of Delhi, God is being dressed in warm woolen clothes in view of winter.
Surendra Diwan, head of the Gufa Wale Shiv Mandir in Preet Vihar, has told that special care is taken of God here. God is being dressed in warm clothes since last week. Woolen clothes like shawl, dupatta and cap are being worn by God according to the weather. After the evening aarti, special arrangements are made for warm clothes for God to sleep at night.
In Shri Sanatan Dharma Mandir and Dharamshala located in Yamuna Vihar, God is also dressed in woolen clothes. Here, separate arrangements of warm clothes are made for all the gods and goddesses. Seeing these woolen clothes of God, there is an atmosphere of devotion and enthusiasm among the devotees.
Pollution level worsens
With the onset of winter in Delhi-NCR, the pollution level has also reached a bad state. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 288, which falls in the “poor” category.
Faridabad’s AQI was 106, Ghaziabad’s 186, Greater Noida’s 252, Gurugram’s 269 and Noida’s 198. According to the forecast, the pollution level will remain poor from 13 to 15 December and after that it may go into the “very poor” category.
Due to the slow speed of winds, pollution particles remain in the atmosphere. On Thursday, the speed of winds was 14 kilometers per hour, while on Friday and Saturday it will be limited to 8 to 14 kilometers per hour.
In view of this increasing outbreak of winter and pollution, people are being advised to be cautious and take special care of their health.
