Maharashtra Elections 2024: Bhupendra Yadav and Ashwini Vaishnav played an important role, have also done wonders in Madhya Pradesh

The role of these two leaders in BJP’s victory in Maharashtra changed the equation Bhupendra Yadav and Ashwini Vaishnav had camped in Maharashtra even before the Lok Sabha elections. Both these leaders played an important role in ticket distribution to making the party’s strategy.

The duo of senior BJP leaders Bhupendra Yadav and Ashwini Vaishnav played an important role in ensuring the party’s victory in Maharashtra after Madhya Pradesh.

Last year, the Yadav-Vaishnav duo was entrusted with the responsibility of campaigning for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh. The party retained power by winning 163 out of 230 assembly seats in the state.

In the Maharashtra elections too, the command of the BJP’s election campaign was handed over to Yadav and Vaishnav. After the party’s poor performance in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections, both the Union ministers camped in the state for several months and tried to turn the voters in favor of the BJP in the assembly elections.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis congratulated Yadav after the vote counting trends came out and indicated a wave of victory for the Mahayuti (BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP) alliance.

The BJP won 132 seats in Maharashtra, its best ever performance in assembly elections. However, it had to settle for just 9 seats in the Lok Sabha elections held in April-May, while it had won 23 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Yadav and Vaishnav were appointed as in-charge and co-in-charge for the Maharashtra elections in June, just days after the Lok Sabha results were announced.

The two leaders actively worked and reached out to disgruntled sections and various smaller ethnic groups within the party as the BJP faced a major challenge from the Maratha reservation agitation led by reservation activist Manoj Jarange.

Union environment minister Yadav was also the BJP in-charge in the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections when the party won 105 seats even as the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena won 56 seats.

However, the Shiv Sena broke the alliance with the BJP following differences over the chief minister’s post and formed the government with the support of the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
